How many openings will there be for ninth grade and how many applications do you receive?

We enroll approximately 440 students at the freshman level. We expect to receive over 1500 applications for these spaces.

What are the acceptance criteria?

Admissions Criteria

Archbishop Mitty High School is a Catholic college preparatory and preference is given to Catholic applicants. Admission to Archbishop Mitty High School is comprehensive; in particular, the Admissions Committee considers the following criteria when making admissions decisions:

  • Proof of Catholic baptism
  • 7th and 8th grade grades (No marks lower than C; 3.0 grade point average or higher is strongly recommended)
  • Standardized testing scores from junior high and the High School Placement Test
  • Teacher recommendations
  • Student-reported activities and special talents

What are my student’s chances of being accepted to Archbishop Mitty if my student is not Catholic?

Archbishop Mitty considers applications from all students. Priority is given to Catholic applicants; however, approximately 25% of our student population is non-Catholic.

How many letters of recommendation are needed?

We require one online recommendation that should be completed by the applicant's principal, 8th grade teacher, or counselor. As an option, to give us more information, an applicant may submit an additional recommendation from his or her English, math, science or social studies teacher. No additional letters of recommendation are required.

How much is tuition?

Tuition and fees for the 2018-2019 school year total $21,000.

Does Archbishop Mitty High School offer financial assistance?

Tuition assistance is available to families at Archbishop Mitty High School with demonstrated financial need. It is a goal of the school Administration and the Board of Regents to give all qualified students, regardless of financial resources, an opportunity to attend AMHS. Financial Aid applications for the 2019-2020 school year will be available online November 18, 2018 and will be due February 4, 2019.

Do you accept transfer students?

A very small number of students are accepted for grades 10 and 11 if space becomes available. We do not consider transfer students for 12th grade or for mid-year enrollment.

Where do Archbishop Mitty graduates attend college?

100% of Archbishop Mitty graduates go on to college, a percentage far in excess of the national average. Ninty-seven percent of the Class of 2017 have chosen to attend a four year institution.  Members of the Class of 2018 were accepted at more than 275 four-year institutions, including Ivy league universities, Stanford University, Santa Clara University, all UC and Cal State campuses, and a wide variety of other public and private universities throughout the United States and across the globe.  The Class of 2018 was awarded approximately $42 million in academic scholarships and grants for four years of college.

Are all Archbishop Mitty students issued iPads?

Yes.  All Archbishop Mitty students are issued iPads as part of their student resources.  The fees associated with the iPad are included in the annual tuition.  For more information on the Archbishop Mitty iPad Integration Program, please click here.
