The AMHS women’s volleyball team is the premier prep volleyball program in the country. The Monarchs have claimed 14 CIF State Championships since 1993. Over the years, the program has produced some incredible alumnae including three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri (Walsh ’96) Jennings. This fall, the team collected the WCAL, CCS, NorCal Open Division, and CIF State Open Division championships.
Coach Almazan-Cezar has lead the Monarchs to 11 state championships and seven recognized national championships during his 18 years of coaching AMHS women’s volleyball teams. In 2017, he was named the Coach of the Year by the Mercury News, the Coach of the Year by MaxPreps, and the All-USA Volleyball Coach of the Year by USA Today. Over his coaching career, he has been named the California Coach of the Year by the California Coaches Association and the National Coach of the Year by MaxPreps, the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and Prepvolleyball.com. Coach Almazan-Cezar has won more than 800 matches, placing him in the top three for career wins amongst all high school volleyball coaches in California. He has been inducted into the AMHS Hall of Fame in every category where he can qualify for recognition, including as the coach of a team and in the special category.
