Enrichment Camps

All morning Enrichment camps are from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon and include a break that varies by Enrichment camp.  Noon lunch is available by AMHS in-house caterer, Epicurean. Students can stay and eat before attending afternoon Enrichment or Athletic camps.  Meal plans can be purchased online when registering for Enrichment camps. All afternoon camps begin at 12:50 pm following the lunch break. Camp cost includes a Summer Program apparel item.

Literature

Literature, Writing and Language Exploration (Rising 6th-8th Grade):

This enrichment camp mimics a traditional school day experience where students, grouped by grade level, learn three subjects from three Mitty English Department faculty during three separate 65-minute periods. The curriculum at each grade level explores expression of the English language and is supported by use of unique novels, writing assignments, and fun activities. AMHS iPads are provided for student use during the enrichment camp. Speech and Debate

Speech and Debate (Rising 5th-6th Grade):

In this enrichment camp, students learn ways to improve their confidence, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills through our unique public speaking enrichment program for rising 5th and 6th graders. Our Director of Debate, along with members of our back-to-back Student State Champion Mitty Speech and Debate team, will mentor students on how to perform others' famous speeches, research, write, and perform a persuasive speech of their own. Students will even participate in a mock legislative session of Congress to discuss and debate exciting contemporary issues. Each student will walk away from this program with vastly improved self-confidence and communication skills, as well as critical thinking and research abilities.

Applied Math, Science and Programming (Rising 6th-8th Grade):

This enrichment camp mimics a traditional school day experience where students, grouped by grade level, learn three subjects from three Mitty Math, Science and Information Technology faculty during three separate 65-minute periods. The curriculum at each grade level provides applications of math, science and Swift iPad programming. Using iPads provided for use during the enrichment camp, students dive into fun project-based curriculum. Web Design (Rising 7th-9th Grade):

In this enrichment camp, students learn at their own individual pace using our unique blend of project-based curriculum and supportive AMHS Information Technology faculty. Students discover the basic elements of web design and use them to create their own website that include graphics, text, and animation. A basic understanding of HTML (the language used to program web pages) is taught with room for students to advance in web programming techniques by the second week. By focusing on CSS layout and design to create a fully functional and professional looking website, students of all abilities and experience levels, including no prior experience, will succeed.

Study Skills for a Digital Age (Rising 7th-9th grade)

In this enrichment camp, students learn the essential study skills they will need to succeed in high school and beyond from AMHS staff. Students learn techniques to manage their time and how to collaborate digitally with teachers and classmates. Through a variety of fun projects and activities, students become masters of the Google Apps for Education (G-Suite) and develop lightning fast keyboard skills. Additionally, students will learn how to be responsible digital citizens. AMHS iPads are provided for student use during the enrichment camp.

Robotics (Rising 7th-9th Grade):

In this enrichment camp, students participate in hands-on learning about robotic design, mechanics, control, and programming using VEX robotic technology from our AMHS Robotics faculty and staff. Fun and challenge are part of this camp experience as student teams work together and learn the fundamentals of robot design and engineering.

Introduction to Robotics (Rising 5th-6th Grade):

Visual and Performing Arts

Musical Theatre (Rising 5th-9th Grade):

Journey “under the sea” this summer at Archbishop Mitty with Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr. Come work with Archbishop Mitty’s Performing Arts faculty and perform in a Broadway-style musical in only two weeks of rehearsal. The fun begins on Thursday, June 14 and ends with an hour-long performance on Friday, June 29th at 11 a.m.

Digital Art and Design (Rising 7th-9th Grade):

In this enrichment camp, students learn from AMHS Visual Arts faculty how to create works of digital art using computers as the creative tool for their art projects. Primarily using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, students will digitally manipulate imagery, design posters, and create digital characters as they become versed in the Element and Principles of Design.

Movie Making (Rising 7th-9th Grade):

In this enrichment camp, students bring imagination to the computer video screen as they explore different filmmaking skills including: cinematography, screenwriting, video editing, storyboarding, and directing. In this camp, AMHS faculty support students in an unique hands-on, creative, and fun course where they produce movies from start to finish.

Digital Photography (7th-9th Grade):
July 2 - July 13
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In this enrichment camp, students learn about the different types of photography- nature, portraiture, sports and still life, and study the basic techniques of color and composition in photography from AMHS faculty. Using Photoshop student will learn how to manipulate photographs to enhance features and qualities in their images.  Students are required to provide their own digital camera for use during this camp.
